The Big Lunch Community Awards

As The Big Lunch enters its fifth year this year, we’re celebrating the fantastic difference our Big Lunchers have made to their communities by hosting The Big Lunch Community Awards.

We want to give something back by recognising Big Lunch community action happening in villages, towns and cities across the UK. Nominations were open to all communities that have taken part in The Big Lunch over the years who have seen a positive difference in their local community and could meet the simple criteria.

We were delighted by the high number of entries we received and have now selected 35 communities for our shortlist. A judging panel made up of representatives selected by The Big Lunch team including Barbara Windsor, the Mayor of London’s Street Party Ambassador and long-standing supporter of The Big Lunch, will select five finalists who will be treated to an all-expenses-paid trip to London before attending an awards presentation at Clarence House to receive their award from The Big Lunch Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall on Tuesday 23rd April.

Actress and Big Lunch Ambassador, Barbara Windsor says, “I’m delighted to be part of the judging process for this fantastic award. The Big Lunch is such a simple idea yet the amazing stories that have come out of it prove that it really does work. Having a bite to eat together and enjoying a good old knees-up on your street once a year is a marvellous way to get people talking to their neighbours, and I’d urge everyone to get involved this year on 2 June.”

Thank you to everyone that entered The Big Lunch Community Awards. We will be using some of the stories in our case study blogs over the next month or so, have a read and get inspired by the fabulous community action that comes from the good conversations that happen at Big Lunches

Hi – just wondering if I’ve missed the final result of Big Lunch Community Awards?

Hevingham Laurel Club members were delighted to be one of the communities to reach the short listed, but have heard nothing since!

Primrose Court Sheltered Housing are winning the battle against social isolation for its elderly residents. The Queen’s 90th birthday is being celebrated in style and has even resulted in a marriage proposal !! Big Lunch is also reaching out to the elderly residents living near by too.
