February 11, 2013
Author: Fay

This year The Big Lunch has once again joined forces with our friends at Love Food Hate Waste to help everyone to have a waste free Big Lunch and make the most of the food you already have at home. Wasting food that could have been eaten costs the average family with children about £50 a month! Lovefoodhatewaste.com has everything you need to help you reduce food waste and save money, from recipes, hints and tips to a party food planner!

Two chefs

Together we are offering free training to housing association staff in England. The training will cover how to have a Big Lunch on a tight budget, the issues around food waste and ways in which we can all help to reduce it.

It will include:

  • Advice on catering for large numbers without it costing the earth
  • How to avoid ending up with mountains of waste after your Big Lunch
  • Tips to enable you to help your residents to reduce their food waste and save money in their daily life.
  • Big Lunch recipe tips, games ideas and practical advice about how to organise an event on any scale.

The training will be running in April, subject to demand, if you and your colleagues are interested in attending a free training session, please email Fay.Richards@thebiglunch.com by 15th March. Location and date will be decided by the number of requests per area.
